The Whistler World Championships definitively consecrated Francesco Friedrich in the bob legend. The German champion after having dominated the two-man bobsled competition, also won the gold medal in the four-man bob, becoming the first rider in history to win the combined two-bob bob in three consecutive seasons. four at the World Cup (2017-2019) and at the Olympics (2018).

A race that of the four-man bob of the Whistler World Championship that saw the German champion sweat the proverbial seven shirts to get the better of a combative Oskars Kibermanis. The Baltic in fact has tried since the first descent to make life difficult to the very favored Teutonic, printing in the first round the new primates of thrust and track, taking the lead of the competition at the end of the first day.
In the second and decisive part of the race, Friedrich and the brakers Bauer, Margis and Grothkopp, however, put the arrow signing the best partials of the day, closing with 29 hundredths of an advantage on the strong Latvian driver. With this success the Pirna rider obtained for the second consecutive world the two-man and four-bobsleigh doubles equaling the one-two set between 1960 and 1961 by the legendary Eugenio Monti.
Friedrich also climbs to 7 championship titles won in his career, becoming the fourth most successful athlete ever in world events. In this special classification continues to command Monti with 9 world championships (7 in the two and 2 in the four ed), followed by the 8 by Andrè Lange (3 + 5) and Christoph Langen (5 + 3) and alongside the Swiss Erik Schaerer with 7 ( 3 + 4).
Third place for a happy Justin Kripps detached 45 cents from the top, which closes a world home to be framed having won for the first time two world medals. Fourth position for the Russian Andrianov, fifth for the increasingly convincing Karl Vogt class 1997, sixth for the 'Austrian Maier who preceded the' silver Olympic Won.
Race to forget instead for the Germans Walther and Lochner respectively eighth and ninth, who have never managed to keep the pace of the first in the standings. A world decidedly subdued especially for Johannes Lochner that unlike compatriot Walther (bronze in the two ed) returns home for the first time with zero world medals.
Good eighteenth place for the Azzurri Patrick Baumgartner, Alexi Achtori Essoh, Costantno Ughi and Mattia Variola who confirmed in the four-man bob to be much more competitive than the two. The Italian crew has shown that they still have the potential to grow further in performance and in the coming seasons it is not excluded to see the blue bob behind the top 10 positions in the standings.
