Germany dominant in Sigulda in the first stage of the bobsled World Cup. The German national team has in fact made the 'en-plein of successes in the three races scheduled, thanks to the double affirmation of Francesco Friedrich in the two rehearsals of two men's bobsled and the victory of Mariama Jamanka in the women's competition.

The first seasonal weekend of the bobsledding circuit opened with the women's race, where the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Champion and her Annika Drazek brakeman had virtually no rivals. The German crew took the beauty of 61 cents at the Russian bob led by Nadezhda Sergeeva and 82 cents at the second Made in Germany partnership led by the debutant Anna Koehler.
The competition that due to the retirements of Willemsen, Greubel-Poser, Hengster and the sabbatical year of Kaillie Humphries, saw only 9 crews at the start lost immediately another protagonist: Elana Meyers-Taylor. In fact, the American was disqualified for irregular weight in the checks carried out at the end of the first descent.
Among the men, the champion Francesco Friedrich, who won the last year of the Olympic title and the World Cup of bobsleds, took the lead. The twenty-six Pirna has defeated the competition winning race 1 in the company of the brakeman Alexander Schueller, while in race 2 he climbed on the top step of the podium together with Martin Grothkopp.
Behind the German has been placed on both occasions the Latvian landlord Oskar Kibermanis, while on the third step of the podium were alternated the 'Austrian Benjamin Maier and the' other Teutonic Christoph Hafer immediately in the top-three all '' debut in the World Cup.
To be noted the extraordinary fourth place of the Czech Dominik Dvorak that in the first competition gave the Czech Republic the best result ever in the maximum circuit of the bob. Weekend to forget for the Russian Kasjanov out of the top-ten in both races.
The Italian team did not take part in the World Cup weekend, making their season debut at Altenberg in the European Cup circuit. The driver Patrick Baumgartner has collected a 13th place together with the debutant braking Alex Essoh Atchori, while in the second competition in the program the 'South Tyrolean paired with Mattia Variola after the 12th place of the first descent did not take part in the final heat due to a technical problem. The four-man bobsled race where Baumgartner and the brakes Achtori, Fontana and Verginer finished fifth.
The next round of the bobsled World Cup is scheduled for six days on the Winterberg track.
