For the second consecutive year, Covid is blocking the world championship event, which should have been staged from 19 to 28 March in Schaffhausen.

As in 2020 in Canada, the World Curling Federation was forced, today, to communicate the cancellation of the women's curling world championships, scheduled in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, from 19 to 28 March. No world championship event even in this 2021, by decision of the health authorities of the Swiss government. The evolution of the pandemic, with particular reference to the spread of new viral variants, led Switzerland to opt for the cancellation of the event despite the efforts of the international federation as well as the local organizers.
The news also affects the Italian national team, which allegedly took part in the competition. "We have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of athletes, staff, volunteers and professionals in this event and we are extremely disappointed that the athletes, who worked hard to compete at the World Championships, will not be able to take part in the world championship for the second consecutive year ”, the words of the president of the World Curling Federation, Kate Chaithness.
