Discovery Sports has signed a new multi-year partnership with Infront to broadcast all FIS world competitions in over fifty European countries, reaffirming its status as Home of Winter Sports. Starting from the 2021/22 season, all the events of the Alpine Ski World Cup, that of ski jumping, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and the CdM competitions for snowboarding, freestyle and freeski (biathlon falls instead under the IBU aegis, but it will be fully visible as per tradition), will be broadcast on the Eurosport channels and the discovery + platform for the next five years.
The package of winter sports rights includes the next two editions of the 2023 and 2025 Alpine Skiing World Championships, in Courchevel / Méribel and Saalbach, Nordic skiing in Planica and Trondheim, as well as the snowboard, freestyle and freeski world championships that in 2023 will be played in Georgia. The Biathlon World Team Challenge and the Summer Ski Jumping Grand Prix will also be on Discovery until 2025 for a total of over 1000 hours of LIVE per year.
Eurosport Cube has been awarded multiple awards “for redefining the visual experience of the Olympic Games” and Discovery's investment in the most advanced technology heralds other new innovations, which will be unveiled on the road to Beijing 2022. From Official Games Broadcaster Olympics, Discovery Sports offered Tokyo 2020 viewers in full version, beating all audience and engagement records during the first Games in streaming with 1.3 billion minutes of Olympic content through its digital platforms and triple the number of new subscribers to discovery + and Eurosport compared to PyeongChang 2018.
And at the Beijing 2022 Games, discovery + will offer for the first time every live moment of a winter Olympics.
