In January the European Youth Olympic Festival in Friuli Venezia Giulia: tomorrow the first step in the Ara Pacis in the capital, with the biathlete Sara Scattolo who will start the torch relay.

Friday 4th November will be a very important day for EYOF2023. In the setting of the Ara Pacis in Rome, from 6.30 pm, the official ceremony of lighting the flame of the sixteenth edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival for winter disciplines will be held, which will take place from 21 to 28 January in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Ignition that represents the beginning of the journey that the Torch will make from Rome going up to Italy and touching its symbolic city, until it reaches Trieste in Piazza Unità d''Italia, next 21 January for the inaugural ceremony of EYOF2023 FVG. First stage of the ten that will characterize the "Road to EYOF2023" the Republic of San Marino. The torch will travel aboard the truck "I am Friuli Venezia Giulia" in the company of the mascot, the marmot Kugy, and the athletes testimonial of the Region: Sara Scattolo, gold medal at the Biathlon Youth World Championships, Francesco Cecon, absolute Italian champion jump and son of Roberto, the greatest Italian jumper ever, and Mara Martini, Italian ski mountaineering champion. Also tomorrow, at 13.00, EYOF2023 FVG will be officially launched at a press conference in the presence of the president of the European Olympic Committees, Spyros Capralos, the president of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Massimiliano Fedriga, and Sara Scattolo herself. The appointment is set in Viale delle Olimpiadi. An edition that promises to be the edition of records: 2,300 participants, of which 1,300 athletes aged 14 to 18, 12 ski centers hosting 14 sporting events for over 100 competitions on the calendar, 1,300 volunteers, 80 regional accommodation facilities involved in hospitality. An international multi-sport event that for the first time ever will see the debut of Ski mountaineering, Freestyle Skiing (Slopestyle and Big Air) and Ski Cross. Not only record numbers, but also many innovations in the organization of a single edition starting from its cross-border and widespread nature, with 12 regional ski resorts actively involved, including two competition venues in Austria and Slovenia. Originality that passes through the Memorandum of Understanding already operational with the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, the involvement of the students of the university centers of Trieste and Udine and of the Higher State Institutes as volunteers, of Onlus social cooperatives, of the University of Udine and Agrifood for the study of performing menus, dedicated to winter sports athletes, with only regional products to characterize a sustainable Lunch Box, of the University of Udine for the development of a project that analyzes the environmental and economic effects of the Festival, of the Department of Mathematical, Computer and Physical Sciences of the University of Udine for the development of a system of visual traceability of the performance of athletes, of the Regional Department of Education and Vocational Training and of the Direction of the Regional School Office for the organization of a conference that promotes the Olympic values of sport and invites students to attend the co sports competitions on the calendar. And the creation of an APP that updates sports delegations, athletes and staff in real time on possible program changes and entertains sportsmen in a virtual Olympic Village. But not only. Trieste FVG Airport is also an active part for the organization of charter flights, reserved for delegations, to and from the regional airport, PromoTurismo for the promotion of a territory with a great tourist vocation, Mayors, Communities and sports associations of a whole Region that are preparing to host a sporting event of international caliber. EYOF2023 FVG is an event organized also thanks to the contribution of the Department for Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Department of Youth Policies.
