The choice of piazza Unità d'Italia has been made official: appointment on 21 January 2023 to kick off the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Trieste will host the opening ceremony of the 16th edition of EYOF 2023.
On 21 January, over 2,000 athletes and guests from 48 countries will parade in Piazza Unità d''Italia. The agreement, which will see the regional capital as a suggestive showcase of international youth Olympic sport (from 14 to 18 years old), was made official yesterday in a meeting of the Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and the Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel with the President of the EYOF2023 Committee, Maurizio Dunnhofer (accompanied by the General Manager Giorgio Kaidisch).
The mayor was enthusiastic and proud to be able to inaugurate this important international youth sporting event in one of the most beautiful squares in Europe and in one of the sportiest cities in Italy. Maurizio Dunnhofer, during this first visit linked above all to the technical-administrative and relational aspects, briefly illustrated to the mayor and deputy mayor the program of the event in general and the first ideas related to the schedule of the inaugural ceremony. A few days ago a delegation from Friuli Venezia Giulia withdrew the baton, the European Olympic flag, in the city of Vuokatti, in Finland.
The big news of this 16th edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival is that it will be organized in an entire region and no longer in a single location as is traditionally the case. All the mountain tourist resorts of Friuli Venezia Giulia will host the competitions of the 13 sporting disciplines scheduled, included in the official calendar, from 21 to 28 January 2023. They will be the prologue to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games in which some EYOF athletes will certainly participate FVG 2023. Another important novelty: all the delegations of the Olympic Committees will have Trieste as a reference and host headquarters.
