On Wednesday evening, the nominations for the next federal elections on October 15 were made official by the dedicated commission of the FISI.
Five men in comparison for the presidency of the Italian Winter Sports Federation in the next four years, the one that will lead us to the Winter Olympic Games at home, Milan Cortina 2026. Among these, the first to present himself with a program already in the heart of summer was Alessandro Falez, 67-year-old Roman entrepreneur, ski instructor and Master level athlete.
A few hours ago, Falez experienced the first public event linked to his candidacy, in his hometown at the Crowne Plaza in the presence of the committees of Central and Southern Italy (but not only), the many representatives of the Ski Clubs who have decided to participate as well as sponsors and fans.
A meeting, moderated by a journalist of the caliber of Giovanni Bruno, in which we started from the basis of a choice, that of Falez, to get on track for a different FISI. "I realized that there would be an opportunity for change, but it was not easy to choose to try - the words of the presidential candidate - For the passion I have for the world of snow, I thought I could bring my own contribution. personal and professional experience. We have many people with great passion and great resources within the FISI, but they are not exploited to the fullest even though they represent the founding structure of our system.
An important basis for a Federation made of passion and with even more important prospects, thinking of Milan Cortina, is simply fundamental ".
Alongside Falez, there was also a candidate councilor in Rome such as Enzo Sima from Friuli, fresh from the last two terms in Flavio Roda's FISI. “The element that struck me in the exchange of ideas with Alessandro is sharing, which has certainly not been a characterizing element of the last 4 years in the Federation. It is a fundamental concept, no one can have knowledge in all aspects and it is necessary to delegate based on the experiences and skills of each one. The world of skiing and snow is closely linked to the mountain economy and a strong relationship with institutions is needed ”.
Falez again: “I would like a Federation that addresses the base, which is our backbone, for a modern, open, strong and then winning FISI. To do all this, you need the investment of resources and the creation of services, just think of the glaciers closed for most of the summer, forcing the athletes to move to indoor facilities in the Netherlands and Belgium. Why don't we make those skidomes ourselves, to be made available to our ski clubs?
At the same time, we need structures for working on the physical and technical part, naturally aimed at all athletes: I say this because many of us are linked to alpine skiing, but we need to give support to all the 15 disciplines that make up the FISI ".
The Roman entrepreneur also launched the idea of the "FISI for Charity Foundation", with "supporting members to represent the initial endowment of a foundation that does voluntary work, because in our programs we want an inclusive and attentive FISI social and territorial. To support the base it is necessary to increase the number of members, giving support to the ski clubs because we are losing many young people who do not find outlets; we have an emblematic case in the daughter of Daniela Ceccarelli, Lara Colturi, we need to understand how much we can find and accompany talents along their path, in a system like ours which is currently in plaster ”.
Among the directors representing the technicians, Luca Bertagnolli was defined by Falez as the reference point identified for this area, with the candidate for president who also spoke of the need to "create a research and development area in which to invest heavily, but with a necessity to which I always return, the base. We need a more continuous relationship with the local committees to understand everyone's needs and problems ".
There was also the intervention of General Vincenzo Parrinello, who left the Guardia di Finanza last June after 40 years of active service, and at the time raised the problem linked to the candidacy of Flavio Roda, towards a fourth mandate contrary to federal regulations. "It is a battle of legality that should be fought by every member and every citizen".
Alessandro Falez spoke about the Olympic goal. "2026 is already upon us, but we will only be able to make some corrections, many aspects have already been defined and our role as FISI, within Milan Cortina, will be to win medals, because to deal with the situation linked to structures can only be the Foundation. However, we want to work to leave a legacy, something that has the recognition of the institutions and that leads the FISI to become the promoter of a system that is useful for having a credible and authoritative role ".
The closure of the presidential candidate addressed precisely to the one who led the Federation in the last decade: “I consider Flavio Roda an intellectually honest person, who has dedicated himself day and night to this commitment, taking in hand an FISI in disarray. He rearranged it as he knew how to do it, that is, as a man of personal skills but not able to work in a system; what he did, however, he did well by solving the Federation's financial problems.
Chapeau for what he has done, but the time has come to change because what a man can do alone is no longer enough, you need a team ”.
