Undersecretary Valentina Vezzali: "Sport is a great school for everyone in terms of inclusion".

The Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 edition were assigned to Italy, with an appointment set in Turin. This is what was made official on the occasion of the Special Olympics International Board (with assignment obviously subject to the relative financial guarantees) in which Valentina Vezzali participated , Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with responsibility for sport, and the Minister for Disabilities Erika Stefani: "Especially on the issue of disabilities, sport is the great school for everyone in order to promote effective inclusion that initiates a full cultural transformation in our country ".
The Minister for Youth Policies, Fabiana Dadone, added: “I thank everyone and I welcome this candidacy with great enthusiasm. If we are here, it is symptomatic that these Games represent an opportunity that goes beyond barriers, especially mental and cultural ones ”. The Mayor of Turin, Chiara Appendino: “We are enthusiastic about this project. Turin is ready to host the Special Olympics athletes, one of the most beautiful realities I have known in recent years as Mayor. Truly a wonderful community, the values represented by Special Olympics are an example for everyone, especially for future generations ”.
Representing the Piedmont Region there were Paola Casagrande, Director General of Tourism, Culture, Gianluca Vignale, Head of Cabinet, Alberto Re responsible for the Sports Office, who expressed their full support for the event. Speakers, on behalf of Special Olympics Italy, the President Angelo Moratti, as well as Federico Correzzola, athlete member of the Board of Special Olympics Italy and of the International Olympics Academy, and Alessandra Palazzotti, National Director of Special Olympics, Paola Mengoni, Director Sportsman and Carlo Cremonte, Regional Director of Team Piemonte. The Turin 2025 Winter World Games, scheduled from 29 January to 9 February, will involve 3,125 athletes and coaches, 3,000 volunteers, thousands of staff, medical personnel, family members, media, guests, delegates and over 300,000 spectators.
Eight sports disciplines divided between Turin, Bardonecchia, Sestriere and Pragelato. Alpine skiing (Sestriere), cross-country skiing (Pragelato), sports dance, figure skating, floorball, short track speed skating (Turin), snowboarding and snowshoeing in Bardonecchia. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held in Turin, at the Grande Torino Olympic Stadium. The Turin 2025 logo, created for the occasion, consists of three elements: the Mole Antonelliana, symbol of the city of Turin, and the Alps that rotate, forming a snowflake, around the Special Olympics logo.
The claim of the candidacy relating to the World Games, “The future is here”; it brings with it a great force, which aims to build a new future through the involvement of everyone, especially young people.
