The Spaniard Javier Fernandez is confirmed to Minsk European champion for the seventh consecutive year and to find a better winning continental strip we must go back to the '30s of the last century when, from 1929 to 1936 the Austrian Karl Schafer conquered 8 consecutive Ori. The 2015 and 2016 world champion recovers two positions from the Short Program and imposes himself in a point-to-point fight with Alexander Samarin. Separated only 13 cents from the Russian after the first segment of the race, the Spanish champion, although presenting a program with a technical score lower than the rival, relies on his mastery in the components and totals, at the end of the two days, 271.59 points against 269.84 of Samarin as he writes down the errors and falls to the leader at the end of the Short Program, Mikhail Kolyada who finishes in fifth place overall.
Matteo Rizzo's comeback is impressive: after the tenth place in the first segment of the race, to the sound of personal best in the Free Demolished Program of almost 18 points he climbs, with 247.08 points, up to the third step of the podium 'Italy to a continental medal among men after the Silver of Samuel Contesti of 2009 and entering the restricted circle of European medalists of which in addition to the Franco-Italian belongs only Carlo Fassi who between 1950 and 1954 collected two medals of 'Gold, a Silver and two Bronzes. Yesterday evening, not without surprises, was awarded the continental title in the women's test. The sixteen year-old Sofia Samodurova, who in the Free program, overtakes her age and current Olympic champion Alina Zagitova, who errs too much in the final act. The Bronze medal went to the Finnish Viveca Lindfors. The seventeenth trevigiana Lucrezia Gennaro improves the sup oersonal best and closes, on the continental debut, in nineteenth position.
