Italy beats Austria at the shoot-out and remains in the world hockey Elite!

After 11 years of alternating promotions and relegations, the Italian national team gets salvation in the world's top ice hockey division. Tonight in Bratislava the blues of coach Clayton Beddoes have indeed beaten in the decisive challenge for the permanence in the series A of the world hockey the Austria.

A match full of great emotions between the two teams at the bottom of the group B of this world championship, which was resolved only by the shoot-outs thanks to the decisive "penalty" marked by the Italian-Canadian Sean McMonagle who signed the final 4 to 3 for the Azzurri. The match, according to forecast, was made by Austria, who in the 65 minutes of play (60 regulations plus 5 over time ed), threw on goal as many as 41 times against only 22 blue attempts. Statistics aside Italy today found finally more concreteness in front of goal that combined with the skill of goalie Andreas Bernard (38 parades) allowed to face the adversary in the fight against salvation. The match begins in the sign of the blue colors, with Bardaro that at 9'59 minutes unlocks the result with a solo action starting from the half court. Just a minute and a half passes and Austria draws with Ganahl. The peer gives the charge to the red and white players who start to grind the game and at 16'08 minutes they find the goal of the provisional 2 to 1 with Raffl with which the first half ends. The second drittel sees Austria again ahead but fails to capitalize on the different occasions created, so the Italian draw arrives thirty-fourth. Kostner receives the disc in a central position and, all by himself, is free to throw the conclusion towards Kickert's door, leaving him no way out. Five minutes later, Italy took the lead again. Rosa left free by the Austrian rearguard receives the disc and from a slightly shifted position on the right, he leaves an unstoppable shot for the 3-2 blue with which he closes the second half. The third period opens immediately with the great Austrian protagonist. After just 105 seconds, Raffl signs the personal double by bringing the result back into a tie. In the remaining minutes of time and overtime Austria continues to make the game but Italy keeps and gets to the shoot-outs. After the markings of Komarek and Rauchenwald for Austria, and of Miceli and Rosa for Italy, both formations make a mistake. This brings us to the time of Schneider who makes a mistake while the Italian-Canadian McMonagle hits the mark, giving Italy a historic stay in the elite of world hockey. Together with Austria, France also retreats, the last in group A, who must regret having lost the direct confrontation with the surprising Great Britain.
