A match full of great emotions between the two teams at the bottom of the group B of this world championship, which was resolved only by the shoot-outs thanks to the decisive "penalty" marked by the Italian-Canadian Sean McMonagle who signed the final 4 to 3 for the Azzurri.
The match, according to forecast, was made by Austria, who in the 65 minutes of play (60 regulations plus 5 over time ed), threw on goal as many as 41 times against only 22 blue attempts. The third period opens immediately with the great Austrian protagonist. After just 105 seconds, Raffl signs the personal double by bringing the result back into a tie. In the remaining minutes of time and overtime Austria continues to make the game but Italy keeps and gets to the shoot-outs.
After the markings of Komarek and Rauchenwald for Austria, and of Miceli and Rosa for Italy, both formations make a mistake. This brings us to the time of Schneider who makes a mistake while the Italian-Canadian McMonagle hits the mark, giving Italy a historic stay in the elite of world hockey.
Together with Austria, France also retreats, the last in group A, who must regret having lost the direct confrontation with the surprising Great Britain.
