After the editions of 1996 and 2004, the NHL raises the World Cup tournament with the best players in the world included in the calendar so as not to interfere with the commitments of reliefs professional.

While not yet started discussions between the International Olympic Committee and the commissioner of the NHL for the participation of the players in the league at the Olympics in Pyeongchang, the National Hockey League announced during the weekend dedicated to & rsquo; All Star Game a new edition of World Cup which will have & agrave; place in 2016, twelve years after the & rsquo; last edition. With annual world championships that cross their calendar with the finals of the Stanley Cup, the & ldquo; new & rdquo; competition would represent the & rsquo; only opportunity to see all together the world's best players on the ice.
The formula for the tournament that will have & agrave; place in Toronto from September 17 to October 1, 2016 provides for the participation of the national Canada, United States, Sweden, Russia, Finland and the Czech Republic and, to complete the roster to eight teams, a representative of the North American under 23 and an All-Star team of other European nations. The eight teams will be divided into two groups that will promote the top two in a semifinal match while the final will be dry & agrave; played the best of three matches. All with field and NHL rules.
The competition should take one every four years with a slightly different formula that from subsequent editions provides a qualifying tournament in Europe to describe the team that would take the place of & rsquo; All Star team.
If the return of the World Cup & egrave; now official, coming from Canada rumors of an event further study of the NHL to increase its visibility & agrave; Global and its turnover: a sort of Ryder Cup of & rsquo; Hockey that opposes in a series of five or seven meetings with the best North American players and the best players in Europe since 2018. The first location could be the O2 Arena in London.
