The Women's World Cup has competed on Pohorje only once in the last four years: the FIS has already given the green light to the project to safeguard giant and slalom avoiding the "usual" transfer to Kranjska Gora.

In Maribor, it is known, in recent years it has become increasingly difficult to bring home the women's technical races that the maximum circuit has seen diverted to Kranjska Gora three times from 2018 to 2021, with only the 2019 edition being staged on Mount Pohorje (arriving at an altitude of 340 meters ...) thanks to a fair amount of snow.
Precedents that have clearly led the Slovenian organization to move towards a "plan B" that safeguards the giant and the World Cup slalom scheduled for 8-9 January 2022: as reported by the siol.net portal, the company Marprom which manages the facilities of the area, will soon begin the construction of a new track to remedy the lack of rainfall, but by mid-November we will be ready with an alternative route that would start, in case you were to proceed with the change by renouncing the original start, from the former Habakuk ski lift, passing in front of the Luka refuge and then joining the original route in the last section.
The FIS has already carried out two inspections and given the ok, given that the variant also meets the requirements for a World Cup race, considering that in any case the giant of Maribor (the situation relating to slalom is less evident, which can be compared to other events of the circuit) is to be considered perhaps the easiest of the circuit.
If we think about what Marta Bassino did in Kranjska Gora, dominant over Podkoren in the two replacement giants of the past season, certainly the big blue, like Federica Brignone herself, might prefer to avoid an appointment like Maribor, even if on Pohorje instead a great podium in giant of Sofia Goggia in 2017, beaten on the final rush only by Tessa Worley. That was the penultimate time of the CdM in the area, while in February 2019 Mikaela Shiffrin dominated, winning in slalom and giant, in the second case ex aequo with Petra Vlhova.
In the meantime, the FIS also carried out the summer inspections during the week on the race sites of the next World Cup finals, between Courchevel (which will host the speed) and Méribel (where the technical tests and the team event will take place) which will then be the locations protagonists of the world championship event of 2023, and in Val d''Isère where in mid-December the four races, between men and women, will be staged, which give life to the Critérium de la Première Neige.
