Time for Podkoren and technical competitions in Kranjska Gora, which for the third consecutive year replaces Maribor.
And there is no shortage of snow in the locality on the border with Italy, which tomorrow will host the fifth seasonal giant (first heat at 9.30, the second at 12.30) before the Sunday slalom. Between the wide doors, the Italian national team will field seven athletes, with the well-known defection of Federica Brignone: the only one in the first sub-group is Marta Bassino, in the second from 8 to 15 (bib extraction today from 17.00) here is Sofia Goggia, then Elena Curtoni, Roberta Melesi, Ilaria Ghisalberti, the returning Roberta Midali and, unlike what was initially communicated by the FISI (with inclusion in the slalom team), also Vivien Insam.
The preparation in Tarvisio was not easy, but the blue still feel ready to look for what would be the second podium of the season in the discipline (so far only Bassino has succeeded in the second round of Courchevel). "A lot of snow has arrived on the race track in recent days - explains Marta Bassino, the super protagonist in 2021 in Kranjska Gora, with a magical double win in those two giants played a year ago on Podkoren - We hope that the organizers have succeeded to better prepare the route. For us they were days of good training despite the conditions that forced the coaches to salt; I will try to give my best thinking only of skiing, last year Slovenia gave me so many emotions, but every year is a different story and I have to think about what awaits me in the next few weeks, which will be the most important ones of the year".
In Kranjska Gora, Sofia Goggia won her last podium in a CdM giant four years ago, third in a great comeback. "We unfortunately trained little due to the snow that fell, it's already good to have been able to put on skis for two days - says the Bergamo-based, third in the general and called to hold on to the Shiffrin-Vlhova train - I don't expect anything in particular From Saturday's race, in this discipline I have to improve my approach: many times I do decent heats, alternating with laps where I still can't express myself as I would like.
Maybe I should take it with a different mental approach, maybe more lightly. The last podium in Kranjska Gora in 2018? A good memory, since then many things have changed but we will try again ”.
