Very bad injury for Alice Merryweather: fractured tibia and fibula just when she was returning

The American sprinter was injured in a downhill training in Saas-Fee: she will have to remain in the pits for another whole season.

A very bad injury, just when she was about to return to the World Cup, a year and a half after the stop caused by the eating disorders that led her not to compete for the entire last season. Alice Merryweather, one of the promises of American speed, suffered the fracture of the tibia and fibula of the left leg, falling at very high speed (over 120 km / h) during a downhill training on the snow of Saas-Fee, which in recent weeks they have hosted the national team of stars and stripes (and Mikaela Shiffrin herself). The crash dates back to last Wednesday, but only today, a few hours after the first surgery undergone, the athlete and the USA federation have communicated it; moreover, it was announced that for the 24-year-old there will be further knee checks, given that there is some fear related to the ligaments, once she returns home in the coming days. No second Olympics for Alice, who wants to make up for lost time: "This time it will be different from my last stop (referring precisely to the ailments I experienced last year), I think I can heal bones and ligaments and I thank all the people, doctors and not, who have helped me in these days ”.
