A path over 36 years long, to find an Italian skier winner at the Colle in a World Cup race, since in the meantime there had been the double world triumph of Deborah Compagnoni in that unforgettable world championship edition of 1997 in Sestriere .
And it's all home Brignone, for a thread tied to the fate that led from mother Ninna, triumphant on December 14, 1983, to her daughter Federica who can no longer forget the date of January 18, 2020.
Maria Rosa Quario won in Sestriere the fourth and last slalom of her career in the maximum circuit, at just over 22 years old: the 1983/84 season had just begun and "Ninna" was an absolute reference in the discipline, so much so that she could take home clearly that success, with 33 cents of margin on the Austrian Steiner and 62 on Monika Hess, Erika's cousin who, after the 5th place in slalom, triumphed for his part in the combined of that December 14th.
And even if mom could not be present at the parterre of the "Kandahar G.A. Agnelli ", is enjoying the definitive explosion of Federica day after day, more and more in the history of blue skiing: with yesterday's seal, the number 13 in the World Cup, the Aosta Valley is marginally the third all time in terms of victories, -2 from Isolde Kostner and -3 from Deborah Compagnoni, who in giant precedes her with 13 victories at 7 (Denise Karbon definitively detached, at an altitude of 6).
And there is another record that could arrive in this magical season, even if it would be only a natural consequence of the successes and of that race to the giant cup which is the great goal of Federica Brignone: the Italian record of points in a single World Cup season, which dates back only to three years ago (2016/17 season) when Sofia Goggia closed the general in third place with 1197 points.
