Emelie Wikstroem leaves the gates of the new season: "I no longer have the spirit to continue"

The Swedish slalomist formalizes her return from competition, after having collected 106 appearances in the World Cup (with two fourth places). In the palmares also two Olympics, with the 6th place in the Sochi 2014 slalom.

Emelie Wikstroem stops at the gates of the new season, after reflecting at length on whether or not to pursue a career that has been decidedly important in the top circuit. Twenty-nine years old last October 2, the slalom specialist put together 106 bibs in the World Cup, with two fourth places in Schladming in 2012 and Squaw Walley in 2017, but also two Olympic appearances with the 6th place in her discipline in Sochi 2014 and three at the World Championships (best placement in eighth place in Sankt Moritz 2017). Fourteen podiums and two victories in the European Cup, for the Swedish the end of her career took place right on the snow at home, having played the two pre-final slaloms of CdM, last March in Are. "I always thought of continuing as long as I considered it fun to compete, now I think it is no longer the case and I do not have the spirit to take all the risks necessary for this sport - the words of Wikstroem on social media - I decided to open a new chapter of my life, but I carry with me a thousand beautiful memories of this life and there are many people to thank, starting with my family without which all this would not have been possible.
