The issue is the plate inserted into the tibial plateau, which is still causing Fede pain, as happened on July 30 when she returned to skiing in Cervinia: a decision similar to what happened two years ago with Sofia Goggia, who suffered immensely when she returned to the slopes (although almost a year and a half has passed since Brignone’s injury, and in the meantime we know what she did during three months of skiing last winter…) at Stelvio and opted for surgery, giving up the South American trip but completely resolving the problem involving the tibial pilon in her right leg, injured on February 5, 2024, in a training session at Ponte di Legno.

For the two-time winner of the overall World Cup, things are a little more complicated, so much so that Brignone herself explained that they may also decide to operate on the meniscus after assessing the condition of the knee in the operating room: “My leg continues to improve, but unfortunately I still have pain during certain activities and on skis – said the La Salle star – That’s why, together with the medical team, we decided to proceed with surgery.

The main objective will be to remove the plate and clean up the area, with the possibility of also operating on the meniscus. That decision will be made directly during this afternoon’s operation”.
