A lot of Italy protagonist on Karl Schranz, even if the best times in practice were signed by other athletes, from Tippler and Gut-Behrami in the first training on Thursday, to Ledecka in front of Lie in today's one.
In view of the third seasonal descent, scheduled at 11.45 on Saturday on the temple slope of St. Anton, the blue ones really seem to be there; in particular Sofia Goggia and Marta Bassino found themselves very well on such a technical track, which the Olympic champion herself (and specialty red bib) defines as resembling a super-g. “Unlike Val d''Isère, where there was a bit of everything, here there are many corners to be connected one after the other and the average is quite low.
My record in the European Cup 8 years ago? (with a first and a second place, ed). The conditions were totally different and I was really at the beginning of my career, so I don't take them into account - adds the rider from Bergamo - Here we all start from scratch, in the first test I struggled a bit to get in tune with the track, I left too many spaces. This time I tried to put more intensity and energy into it, with some imprecision but I think I have a fairly complete picture of the situation ”.
Marta Bassino, third time trial today 14 hundredths from Ledecka and just two better than Sofia herself, confirmed that she was perfectly happy on the Karl Schranz: "We prepared very well in Santa Caterina Valfurva after New Year, in the end the fast races are a ' excellent opportunity to train, making the most of even the test days. I was not expecting this time trial, I thought I had done long lines and things the opposite of what I had planned. Obviously being too precise on this easy snow does not pay that much, we will try to understand better on the video. There are many curves, it is a beautiful track, very technical, gradually it will speed up and we will have to take this into account.
I aim to do well both downhill and super-g ”.
After the fourth fastest time on Thursday, today Federica Brignone finished 13th, but just 7 tenths behind Ledecka. “I felt good up to the middle - says the World Cup holder - then I went long in a triple and I lost speed for the wall and I came slow to compression. And even in the last part I was not on top of my feet, I started to do little brakes. It's my first time here, in 2013 I was injured, but I'm happy to know new tracks, I can't wait to be at the start tomorrow.
I have to modify my final part because today I faced it really badly. In Santa Caterina I put my long skis back on after the fall of Val d''Isère and I needed them ”.
Elena Curtoni, in the winds today: “The track is very beautiful, all to be pushed - the analysis of the Valtellina - Today I jumped a door, I also tried to take it back but it was impossible. There are no huge pitfalls, all that remains is to attack everything ”.
Finally Francesca Marsaglia, tenth with a marked improvement compared to Thursday: “I needed to test myself to really understand where I am, so I pushed from start to finish and I feel satisfied. The race is always another thing, but I really want to bring to the track all the good things we do in training ”.
