The family, the values of a land of workers, a small town that knows how to pamper her and make her feel truly at home every time she returns to Borgo San Dalmazzo, but at the same time leaves her the necessary spaces to regenerate herself, always away from the spotlight. .
Behind the success of Marta Bassino, who really comes from afar and with constant growth, but about which very few had doubts considering what mother nature did with the Cuneo butterfly, there are also all these factors and a warmth and tranquility that only those who he has known it for a lifetime he can transmit. And there is a group, that is all those people who over six years ago created the "Fan Club Marta Bassino", the only officially recognized association that brings together the fans of the blue champion, which has an important value for Marta. to be mentioned often in interviews and post success dedications, such as on the occasion of the first seasonal victory in Soelden.
We talked about it with the president of the club, which obviously is based in Borgo San Dalmazzo: Bruno Moncalero is very close to the Bassino family, to his father Maurizio and mother Elena, so much so that on Sunday evening, when Marta returned home after the triumphal transfer of Kranjska Gora who saw her dominate the two giants on the “Podkoren”, was there waiting for her with her parents. “At a safe distance, mind you, but I would have liked to hug her because she still made us experience so many emotions - Bruno's story - Marta is like that, a person who makes herself loved, available to everyone. And as far as skiing is concerned, I'm not surprised at what I'm seeing ”.
The "snail" fan club was born in November 2014, ten founding members among friends and relatives such as aunt Luisa and paternal grandfather, Ernesto, who is no longer there and is the honorary president of a reality that is expanding in an important way, but which will always keep its very strong roots. “By now you know, the snail is the symbol of Borgo San Dalmazzo, it brought good results immediately and we kept it as a symbol, even if now for everyone Marta is the butterfly that flies lightly on the snow”.
Moncalero tells us about the genesis of the Marta Bassino Fan Club, very active on social networks and close to 500 members annually. “Formally we were born in 2014, but there was already a consolidated group when Marta won at the youth level, from Pinocchio to the first turning point with gold at Jasna's Junior World Championships. We said to ourselves that if it had been called up for the World Cup, we would have had to create the fan club: we had not even thought it would be so right by winning that title, since it debuted at the finals in Lenzerheide (19 ^ in giant, it was the March 16, 2014) and we showed up with the first banner for her. We therefore waited for the real first race, at the beginning of the following season (immediately in points with 21st place in the giant of Soelden), to organize ourselves and get serious.
We do not have dizzying numbers, God forbid, but we do things right, with a statute and sponsors who are actually friends, to give us a hand and contribute to a budget in order that gives us the opportunity to do charity whenever it appears. possible. The annual membership costs 15 euros and we always guarantee a gadget: this year we created, thanks to the collaboration of Energiapura, customized masks and, after making a donation for Covid hospitals, we mobilized for the flood emergency that particularly impressed Limone Piemonte. We therefore donated 1 euro for each card signed or renewed, to help out in the remaking of the paths of the Valle Gesso so dear to Marta ”.
In this magical season for Marta Bassino and all her fans, of course, the wonderful sensations of human contact to live with the trips around Europe are missing: "The last was the one in Sestriere, just a year ago , we managed to bring 7-800 people if we consider all the people who moved from the province of Cuneo to see Marta - continues Bruno - We can't even do the night marathons in front of the TV that we invented for the Vail World Championships and Olympics in Korea. And also for the World Cup in Cortina we will have to cheer from home, there were already many people willing to leave even at night ”.
Many registrations and requests obviously also come from abroad, “but it was Killington's first victory that made us known in a really important way. If I think of that evening when Marta returned to Borgo San Dalmazzo and we celebrated it by opening the pastry shop, I still get chills. We hope to be able to celebrate it at our traditional social party which, obviously, we cannot organize and which we have always set up with the Ski Club Val Vermenagna ”.
Even Moncalero has no doubts that in Marta's growth such an environment, with an attentive but always discreet father (ski instructor), was an important added value, "but her determination and her immense class they started from a very high base. Then everything else is needed, but the tranquility of family and friends helps a lot. And any success will not change her, she will always remain the simple girl we have known for years ”.

And it is a special world that is experiencing a fairytale alongside the great little champion of Borgo San Dalmazzo.
