The all-blue podium was missed by a hair's breadth, in a year dominated by the Italjet girls, who won 6 of the 9 super-gs scheduled for the World Cup season (in Yanqing, as we know, the things went wrong), but with the resignation of Sofia Goggia on the eve it was quite clear that defending that “1-2-3” would have been decidedly complicated.
Federica Brignone has finally raised her specialty cup to the sky in Courchevel, the third of her career (fourth overall considering the 2020 general), seasoned with the three successes of this 2021/2022, preceding Elena Curtoni in the final ranking, second ahead of Shiffrin and with Goggia fifth (between the Bergamo and the US there is Ragnhild Mowinckel). “A strong emotion, because it is the first World Cup I receive on the track - the words of Faith to the FIS microphones - Today I would have liked to do better, but I have never found a feeling with snow and track. The confidence that I have always had, however, during this super-g season that it was beautiful, thank goodness to have brought it home earlier ... ".
And again, speaking to Rai Sport's microphones: “I am happy with the level I have maintained throughout the year, I am also talking about the descent. I'm skiing well in general in this period, today I don't really know what happened, I haven't even pulled a corner ... ”.
Elena Curtoni suffered until the final descent of Magdalena Egger, as she would have lost the 2nd place in super-g by coming out of the points, having finished in 15th and last useful place. “I saved myself in a corner - said the woman from Valtellina to Simone Benzoni (Rai Sport) microphone - It was a good season, even if I am convinced that I could have done something more. The Olympics a disappointment? I want to think that I go out with the awareness that I have always been there with the first ones, even in the Olympic descent. A new starting point for next year ”.
