The Women's World Cup will start Saturday morning (10am the 1st run, at 1.00pm the second) with the giant on the Rettenbach glacier and in the Italian home the atmosphere is serene and aware of being able to aim for the big target with more athletes .
At the Hotel Sunny, the most awaited protagonists spoke, starting with Federica Brignone, winner of the Oetztal (it was the 2015 edition) and second 12 months ago. "I'm fine, coming here aware of having worked the best as opposed to last year, where I only had ten days of training on my legs - the words of the Aosta Valley - I am here to try and certainly I will not be satisfied".
Marta Bassino could be the second striker of the national team, starting from the other 7 (remember, starting at 7 pm, the draw of the bibs in the square) thanks to the absence of Mowinckel. "Being here is always a pleasure - said the Piedmontese, who won the first podium in her career in 2016 in Soelden - It will be a tough race, but I like the track."
Sofia Goggia, on the other hand, will have a problem with the starting bib, but approaches the inaugural giant with serenity: “The track is beautiful but long and tiring, since we are then at 3000 meters. In these conditions it is always difficult to maintain a certain intensity, it is now a classic to start here and I am happy to be there â€.
Francesca Marsaglia, on the other hand, has a clear objective: to return permanently to the top 30 in the specialty (she is 37th in WCSL, but will start by 30 am thanks to various absences and retreats, ed): “Starting again in the circuit is always exciting and question marks at the beginning never fail. Tomorrow's race will give us ideas to analyze in view of the second stage that will take place in Killington in a month. I have important goals in the speed disciplines and I feel very good â€.
Irene Curtoni and Karoline Pichler are doing well, and one could finally say after so many physical troubles: the Valtellina says that "even though I worked a lot on the slalom, I decided to give myself another giant possibility. On the other hand I have experience and I know well the decisive points to do well here ", while the South Tyrolean opens a new chapter of career. "I haven't had any physical problems, the past one was the season of the return, the current one instead I must consider it as a new beginning".
Finally, great expectation also for Roberta Melesi, with a permanent job in giant. "I am very happy to be here, I will give everything, then we will see how it goes", and for Roberta Midali who has conquered the eighth blue bib by overtaking Laura Pirovano in a time-trial play-off. "Happy to be there - the Bergamo girl smiled - and let's see what we can do about this Rettenbach ...".
