Lara "sees" the World Cup with the new calendar and a long career: Gut-Behrami's thoughts

Among the most serious candidates for the 2021/22 World Cup, there can only be the one who caressed the second crystal ball, after the one won in 2016, only a few months ago in the duel with Petra Vlhova. We are talking about Lara Gut-Behrami, who certainly can smile for the new calendar that offers nine races for each discipline (in addition to the parallel of Lech / Zuers), even if the unknown bad weather clearly weighs more on "her" fast races, precisely as happened at the Lenzerheide finals last March. The Ticinese, double world gold medal in Cortina, complained about the situation that took away, in fact, any chance for the "coppone", starting from the initial discrepancy in the calendar with respect to the technical tests. Lara does not talk about precise objectives, but there is no doubt that she will also try to put on her first Olympic gold medal of her career at the Beijing Games; living it race after race, without too much pressure as she managed to do very well last year, the champion from Comano can play the next World Cup, as clearly explained by the technical director of Swiss-Ski, Walter Reusser. “The three disciplines will be fundamental - the words released at the“ Blick ”- and Lara has all the credentials, she could play 27 races instead of 22 last year. In reality, however, I think it is more important to win several races than to think about the calendar; what counts is skiing well, the rest comes by itself, but if we think that she is the reigning world champion in giant and super-g, as well as bronze in downhill, she has every possibility available. The difficulty will be to be able to put together the pieces of the puzzle for the whole winter, combining the fast disciplines and the technical ones ". Gut-Behrami herself spoke in the last few hours, more generally about her career, to “Le Temps”: revealing that in 2019 many people “advised me to stop during the hardest period. It takes courage to move forward when things are not going well, but after the injury of 2017 (when the crusader broke in the warm-up of the slalom of the world combined in Sankt Moritz, ed) I realized that skiing is my way of build a life before I was going in the wrong direction. I had become a product, there was nothing more of the person. From that moment I got closer to my family, I met my husband, I met childhood friends again. Sport is no longer devouring me, now I feel good physically and technically. Probably - concluded Lara - that fatigue that will lead me to retire will only come in a few years ”.
