The weekend of speed on the Olympia delle Tofane in Cortina d''Ampezzo, could potentially be decisive for various challenges of this Women's World Cup which, before the Olympic Games, will still have three races (Kronplatz giant on Tuesday, downhill and super-g in Garmisch next weekend).
With Sofia Goggia injured and out at least until the recovery at the end of February in Crans-Montana (with the attempt to compete in the Olympic downhill on February 15), for the absolute crystal ball it is reduced to the duel between Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova: the American has gained little in yesterday's super-g and has 52 points of margin, with the 4 giants on the calendar that could be decisive, while Federica Brignone, fourth at 372 points from Shiffrin, can fight for the final podium, but potentially also get closer to the first two since the Aosta Valley will go to Garmisch, unlike Mikaela and Petra.
Brignone who now leads the super-g standings, in a podium always all blue with Elena Curtoni second at -29 and Goggia at 45 points, but with at least one race to skip. We are moving towards the duel between the Aosta Valley and the Valtellina, considering that there are only three races left and the holder of the trophy, Lara Gut-Behrami, is fourth with 151 points behind.
WCSL chapter of super-g: just Fede has overtaken the Ticino at the top and Curtoni has done the same with Goggia for third place, Bassino instead is ninth and this in an Olympic race key, where the Cuneo-based almost certainly will be at the start, could be a problem since Marta will probably not go to Garmisch and could end up close to that 10th place which would mean, in fact, bib number 1 in the five-ring super-g, with all the risks involved (on a track, between the other, never tried by the athletes since the descent tests will be following).
