The times change, almost two hours earlier than in race 1, probably not the snow conditions, on the very hard surface of Podkoren which on Sunday will host the fifth giant of the Women's World Cup, the second in less than 24 hours after the triumph today signed by Marta Bassino.
The Cuneo-based woman will obviously be the reference for all in the new challenge between the wide doors in Kranjska Gora: the first heat will start at 9.15 with the German layout, then at 12.15 the second and decisive one with Paolo Deflorian drawing it (live TV, in both cases, on Eurosport and Rai Sport). Marta, again red bib in the discipline and hunting of poker (out of 5 seasonal competitions), picked the bib number 2 at the draw this afternoon and will come out of the gate between Mikaela Shiffrin, who will have 1, and the leader of the general, Petra Vlhova, number 3.
Both the American and the Slovakian must level up to return to a podium today occupied, in addition to Super Bax, by Tessa Worley and Michelle Gisin: tomorrow the transalpina will start for seventh, the Swiss (today at the first podium of her career in giant) with 4, before Federica Brignone with 5 and Alice Robinson (today only 14th) with 6 and, in the event of a negative result, at the last chance in the first sub-group.
As far as Fede is concerned, Sunday's on the Podkoren glass will be a crucial match to find himself at the highest level in his discipline; the second sub-group will be opened by Lara Gut-Behrami, today eighth in comeback, then we'll see if Brunner, Hector, Holdener and Liensberger (in series numbers 10 to 13) can redeem themselves, with Meta Hrovat, who has earned a decent top ten on her home track, and Sofia Goggia who after today's 14 will wear the number 15 in the Sunday race.
Confirmed on 17 for Elena Curtoni, good 16th today, then from 47 to 50 here are Bertani, Melesi, Cillara Rossi and Midali, at the second chance to hit the first seasonal qualification, the same one that Laura Pirovano is looking for in giant (bib 59 ), which also came out in the first heat.
