"I have to say that I'm flattered by some recent comments by Bode and Lindsey that they think I could introduce myself in 5 events of the world championships - writes Mikaela -. However, as I have tried to run in every specialty this season, and I have won in 5 specialties only this season, I can tell you that not one of those wins was "easy". There is no easy victory. From the outside, people see records and statistics. As I said, those numbers dehumanize sport and what every athlete is trying to achieve. What I see is a huge mixture of work, training, joy, anguish, motivation, laughter, stress, sleepless nights, triumph, pain, doubt, certainty, more doubts, more work, more training, surprises, late flights, canceled flights, lost luggage, long overnight trips, expenses, more work, adventure and some races. I do not have the seasonal titles of slalom and giant on the bulletin board, and I do not even have the slalom or giant world medals on the bulletin board. Girls are competitive and it's a fight, every single race. Everyone has their eyes on gold, so to think that I could compete and come back dancing with 4 or 5 medals would be a gross mistake and honestly disrespectful for the talent and skill of the other athletes, and how much work they put in their skiing. At 23, I'm still trying to understand my full potential and even my limitations. But I certainly learned not to let the arrogance dictate my expectations and my goals. My goal has never been to break records for the most wins, points or most medals at the world championships. My goal is to be really competitive every time I leave, and to have that kind of longevity in my career that will allow me to look back when everything is said and done and to say that - for much of the duration of my career - I was able to compete and fight for that superior step rather than being sidelined for being burned or wounded pushing beyond my capabilities. It is clear to me that many believe that I am facing my career in a way that no one has ever done before, and people do not really understand it. But do you know something? For me it's okay, because I'm ME and no one else ".
Timely Lindsey Vonn's reply comment: "What we said was a compliment, that you are able to win medals in all events. Nobody said it was easy, I assume and we both know, as winners in all 5 specialties. So follow your decision and be yourself. You do not have to justify anything to anyone. Good luck in GS and slalom. 💪🻠"
