The 4 Beijing 2022 medals made the FISI balance sheet good at the last Olympic Games, but we must already plan the next four years where all the big names of the movement will try to be there, including Curtoni. From the Delago sisters to the waiting for Pirovano's return, speed is in an iron barrel. On giant and slalom, however, important work is needed.

It was still them, with the last two Olympic editions that saw men running out of medals, to bring a quality booty, numerically even better than in PyeongChang 2018.
The gold that Sofia Goggia won in Korea did not arrive, but four medals (two silver and two bronze) by the girls of the Italian alpine skiing represent a high level result, among other things obtained with three different athletes.
Brignone with second place in giant and third in combined, Goggia and Nadia Delago with silver and bronze in descent. Of course, there were also some missed opportunities, more or less related to the technical context found in Yanqing: let's think of Marta Bassino in giant and Elena Curtoni in super-g, before the Valtellinese touched the podium in descent. Two athletes who will represent an important base for Milan-Cortina 2026, where Brignone (also asked yesterday on the subject upon arrival in Italy) and Goggia could be there, but clearly they will have to evaluate the evolution of what will happen in the next four years.
The Italian Games will certainly be those of the Delago sisters, given that Nicol, this year in the classic season of ups and downs after returning from a very serious injury, can play for the downhill podium like Nadia, but also Laura Pirovano whom we will see again from the beginning of the 2022/23 vintage after the crusader broken last October.
The Beijing 2022 Olympics were Francesca Marsaglia's last Olympics, as she herself announced in the past few hours, but the speed sector will also be able to count on a number of top-level athletes for the next few years.
The problems, if we want, come from the technical disciplines where, behind Brignone and Bassino, in the giant did not arrive weighty results, even if Melesi, Ghisalberti, Insam, Pichler herself will be able to level up from next season. The same that Della Mea, Rossetti, Viviani, Mathiou, Gulli will try to do, in addition of course to the luxury injured Peterlini, who has been missing so much from December onwards, to revive a slalom in difficulty for many, too many years.
Four years will be enough to propose a real team in Milan-Cortina, also in this discipline, but the signals will have to start arriving from 2022/23.
