Training for the Italian women’s team

Pirovano, Goggia, Curtoni and Bassino: yesterday in Ushuaia, the first day on the slopes amid rain and sleet

The work of the Italian team’s leading women has begun in Tierra del Fuego: until 24 September, a crucial month lies ahead. The seven giant slalom specialists currently training there will return on the 19th. Waiting to see how Brignone’s situation develops.

Amid rain and sleet, Ushuaia welcomed the first day on the slopes for the elite quartet of the “Pink Avalanche”. In place of Federica Brignone, for whom we will only know in a few weeks—after surgery to remove the plate from her left leg—when she will be able to return to the snow, there is Elena Curtoni, who officially belongs to the speed group but is already training in Argentina alongside Laura Pirovano, Sofia Goggia and Marta Bassino.

On Tuesday morning, therefore, the leading athletes of the women’s national team began their training. They will remain in Tierra del Fuego, using the facilities at Cerro Castor, until next 24 September, with Rulfi and Marguerettaz overseeing the technical work and the team’s indispensable and fundamental trainer, Luca Scarian, also on hand.

The seven giant slalom specialists training overseas until 19 September are also in Ushuaia: Lara Della Mea, Marta Rossetti, Emilia Mondinelli, Giulia Valleriani, Alice Pazzaglia, Anna Trocker and Giorgia Collomb. The new head coach, Luca Agazzi, has begun his adventure with the athletes, who are also coached by Daniele Simoncelli.
