Rulfi reassures about Goggia’s condition: “She didn’t feel able to train, but there was nothing traumatic”

On Saturday evening, FISI announced that Sofia Goggia would be returning early from Ushuaia, after not even twenty days of a training camp that, from the end of next week and for the following two weeks, would have continued in La Parva to work on speed events.

No Chile for the Italian champion, who had already put together a solid giant slalom block, due to “an illness experienced by Sofia, who is returning to Italy for the necessary examinations”. The alarm was immediately raised to understand exactly what had happened to the Bergamo star, and an initial answer came directly from the person closest to Goggia, the man who, starting this season, has been personally overseeing her technically while remaining the technical director and guiding figure of the entire women’s national team, following coach Agazzi’s departure.

Gianluca Rulfi spoke to <“La Gazzetta dello Sport”> about what had actually happened as early as the middle of the week down there, in Tierra del Fuego. “Sofia was not feeling well, she was tired and stopped training in the last few days. There was nothing traumatic, but she didn’t feel able to train. In Argentina there was no possibility of carrying out more thorough examinations, which is why we decided she should return to Italy so that everything could be checked properly”.

Dr Andrea Panzeri, who agreed on the decision with the Olympic champion and the Italian staff, will guide the clinical assessment process in the coming hours to establish what may have caused this state of illness.
