It is the sixth athlete from Germany (after Ackermann, Brandner, Dopfer, Stehle and Staubitzer) to greet the white circus in this 2019/20 post season which is seeing many protagonists bid farewell to the competitive spirit.
Veronique Hronek is added to the list, born in 1991 after many injuries and a last season far from the levels that the native of Unterwoessen had shown as a young man. The best result in the 2019/2020 World Cup vintage saw the Bavarian defend himself only with a discreet 18th place in Rosa Khutor's super-g, despite the arrival of a mental coach and the change of materials.
Hronek made his debut in CdM in 2010, collecting 92 appearances and 5th place in the super-g of "his" Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in 2013, as the top in the heart of a career conditioned by three serious knee injuries. The German also has two world appearances, in Schladming and Vail-Beaver Creek, with bronze in the team event of the 2013 world championship event in Austria.
Two successes in the European Cup and the regret of not having participated in any Olympics, "but many beautiful moments lived with the team and companions, in an adventure that I will not forget", confessed Veronique herself to the German media announcing the withdrawal. The future? Currently Hronek works for the federal police and aims to become a mountain guide in Berchtesgaden.
