Alpine Skiinginterview

The Olympic champion, after the disappointing weekend in Canada, prepares the ransom after analyzing everything that did not work.

A wasted opportunity, or rather two, let's do three.
The weekend lived by Sofia Goggia in Lake Louise, in the opening of the speed for the Women's World Cup, was certainly very disappointing for the Olympic champion of PyeongChang, 6th and 12th in the two Canadian descents, coming out in the super -g conclusive.
The Bergamo, already returned Monday from Calgary and departing for Sankt Moritz (tomorrow will be in the Engadine, suitcase lost at the airport ... permitting) in view of the super-g on Saturday, as long as the calendar is confirmed with the forecasted weather decidedly negative for the weekend, he elaborated his post-Lake Louise thoughts on his personal Red Bull blog, "Being Sofia". And there were some very interesting ideas in the analysis of his tests on Men's Olympic and in general on the season that awaits him as a great protagonist.
"When I arrived in Canada I was convinced that I wanted to do everything properly, so as not to have any regrets, but right from the moment I set foot on the track, I admit that I never heard it" my "- confesses Goggia - We must know how to adapt to every context and my completeness it passes just from this, but as my trainer Gianluca Rulfi once said during the Soldeu finals, I struggle in the tracks that do not come to me, while when it puts me in a state of necessity, I become active .
Translated: when the track I have to face is more "simple" and "flat", and does not offer opportunities to really make a difference, I struggle more. With this I do not want to find excuses, also because in the first descent I skied with solidity and compactness and only a smudge on a set in the final cost me dear, having closed two tenths from the podium. Probably without that error my speed season would have started differently, but with the ifs and the buts ... ".
The regrets for the most obvious errors are related to the second descent and the super-g: "Saturday I was in the lead for three intermediate, then in a curve before the jump to mid-track, leaning too much I lost the stability of my supports and I lost concentration there and I was no longer able to make a lucid descent. I promised myself to try again in super-g, because the skiing was there and I have never seen so many green lights in Lake Louise in my career, but as we all know we must then realize and I made a fatal mistake, not believing too much in an attempt to return.
I feel a bit 'stupid, because I know I have thrown away the fabulous opportunities and precious points, especially on Sunday: at the finish line after the super-g I declared to hate skiing, I then corrected myself because I hated myself for having wasted such chances and, above all, having found myself with regrets â€.
Sofia, however, looks ahead with confidence and exalts her team mates: “I feel I am on the piece, the season is long and I know what I can give. Meanwhile I congratulate my companions Frency and Nicol for the podiums obtained and the concreteness put on the track, on the contrary, mine. I'm happy for you".
