Season already over for Christine Scheyer: the shoulder doesn't improve, she will have surgery next week

Austria loses one of its sprinters, who was injured in November in training at Copper Mountain: just two descents, with so much suffering, and now the decision to stop: "I'm already thinking about preparing for the 2023/ 24".

Season over and goodbye world chances for Christine Scheyer, one of the Wunderteam's speed reference points who will have to lose the rest of this 2022/23 which, for her, never actually started. In November, in fact, the 28-year-old from Vorarlberg had injured a ligament in her right shoulder in a simple fall at Copper Mountain, in that fundamental training block preceding the opening of Lake Louise: in Canada, Scheyer only played the first descent, closed in 32nd square, to then return two weeks later to Sankt Moritz, still suffering with the only opening disputed (36th). At that point, an attempt was made to continue with conservative therapy but, as reported by the OESV today, there were no improvements with therapy alone and the necessary stability of the joint was missing. Hence, the red and white downhill skier will end up under the knife next week at the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck, at the hands of the shoulder specialist, Dr. Sepp Braun: "I didn't think it would go so badly and that it would evolve in this way - the words by Christine - Unfortunately she hasn't improved in the last few weeks and her shoulder is too unstable to compete; obviously it hurts, but I look forward with positivity and now I will focus on rehabilitation and then on preparation for next season."
