Goodbye time also in Germany: Marina Wallner retired at the age of 26 after so many injuries

The German slalom rider, who took part in the last race last January in Zagreb, has announced her farewell to competition. For her 43 bibs in the CdM, a 7th place as the best result and the stop in 2018 which was decisive in the negative for her career.

Like every year, the season finale also brings with it the various announcements related to retirements from competitive skiing. Several have already arrived, starting with those of veterans such as Reichelt, Grange and Lizeroux, but today it was the turn of an athlete who is still very young, given that we are talking about a '' 94 class, but tormented by injuries. This is the case of Marina Wallner, who said enough in the afternoon in the social media, following the wake a year later of her compatriots Rebensburg and Ackermann, who left the German national team at the threshold of thirty years. It is clear that physical problems were decisive for an excellent slalom specialist like the Bavarian, who broke the Crusader twice in three years, the second time at the end of November 2018, before the technical competitions of Killington and remaining stationary for a year, before returning back to Levi but with many difficulties from that moment on. This year only one placement in points, right in Finland with a 24th place in the first slalom, and the last of his 43 World Cup races held on January 3 in Zagreb. For Marina, also an Olympic participation (with the 5th place in the team event in PyeongChang) and the 17th place in the world slalom of Sankt Moritz 2017. "I realized my childhood dream - wrote Wallner in his social post -and despite the injuries and health problems, I have lived ten years of joys and great experiences. Thank you all". The best placement in the maximum circuit? A 7th place in the Squaw Valley slalom, in the final of the 2016/17 season.
