A first heat with two Martians, and the pair of blue points they have to chase.
This is the mid-race verdict on Kranjska Gora's Podkoren, which hosts the sixth female giant of the season (without Mikaela Shiffrin, Viktoria Rebensburg and Sofia Goggia), on a track in snow conditions for ... men. Petra Vlhova and Alice Robinson have literally made the difference and are, in view of the second heat scheduled at 13.00, as the favorites for success: the Slovakian precedes the 24-year-old New Zealand by 24 cents, but she made a serious mistake to the attack of the final wall.
Then there is the void, with Meta Hrovat inserted with a great test, on the snow of the house, in third place 77 cents from Vlhova; Wendy Holdener chases fourth at 86 cents and, glued to the Swiss, here is Marta Bassino at 89 and Federica Brignone at 94. The Piedmontese lost a lot on the final wall, but she played a fairly solid heat, the specialty red bib was instead too much wary especially in the upper part (giving Robinson almost 9 tenths in the first 30 seconds), as he confessed to the parterre after his test. It will take a great second to at least take the podium and bring home heavy points.
Immediately behind Fede, there are two cents in Robnik (which is a great heat of the two Slovenians) and Gisin, eighth at 96 cents from the top, while the returning Tessa Worley finished at 1 â€48.
