Already absent in the Kitzbuehel races, Aksel Lund Svindal announced his retirement after the World Cup in Are 2019.

The announcement was in the air and was given last night at the Kitz Race Party. The 36-year-old Norwegian has chronic cartilage problems in the knee. Already this season, the continuation of the athletic career was a matter of conscience. The doctors advised the Norwegian to think about it. "I knew it would be difficult this year and I can not run every race, but I was hoping it was not exactly Kitzbühel, which I have to give up."
At the World Championships in Are, Svindal will return to the place where his great career took off twelve years ago, when he won the world champion gold in descent and in giant: "The most important thing for me personally is that I can be in Aare in the early days with the possibility of winning, this is the goal ".
In the next days we will publish a sort of detailed career of Svindal, consisting so far in 386 World Cup races of which 80 on the podium and 36 wins, two World Cups general, two downhill, five superG and one of giant and combined , of two golds, a silver and an Olympic bronze and of five golds, a silver and two world bronze medals.
