Crans-Montana cancels slalom night show: "To lead by example on sustainability"

Next January the fifth edition of an event that attracted the best specialists in the world to Mont Lachaux was due to take place. Due to the situation linked to energy costs, the organization has chosen to stop at least for 2023: all the World Cup and European Cup events have been confirmed.

If the cancellations of night races in particular, due to the very high energy costs, are a danger for the next World Cup, there are those who have already decided to interrupt an event that was born as a test for a possible new format (conceived by Matteo Joris, Aosta Valley technician of the Swiss men's slalom team) to be introduced in the maximum circuit. We are talking about the slalom exhibition in Crans-Montana, which has already experienced four editions on the night of Mont Lachaux, inviting (with a rich prize money) some of the best specialists in the world, so much so that in the Canton of Valais it won twice Clément Noel, then Luca Aerni and finally last January Kristoffer Jakobsen, ahead of Stefano Gross and Manfred Moelgg. Well, in the winter of 2022/23 this race will not take place, as the Crans-Montana team made official, which, at the same time, did not question the World Cup and European Cup events. "We want to lead by example in terms of sustainability - the organizers said - The restrictions required of everyone for the energy emergency require us to reflect: it was a difficult decision to take, but we are sensitive to this issue and environmental dynamics ". The declared objective is to return to normal by setting up the slalom exhibition for January 2024, also as a test towards the 2027 world championships that Crans-Montana will host again 40 years after that first historic edition in 1987. And who knows what on the Mont Lachaux the world champion slalom cannot be held under the spotlight.
