Austrian downhillers in Chile for the whole month of August, no New Zealand for Schwarz and his teammates

The head of the men's sector of the Wunderteam, Marko Pfeifer, has unveiled the plans for the second part of the summer preparation. We want to bridge the gap with the Swiss, who have Zermatt at their complete disposal, by returning to training in Portillo.

Many national teams will return to South America after two “off” summers due to the pandemic situation and travel restrictions, including the Austrian men's speed team. Appointment in Chile, on the snow of Portillo, from 3 to 28 August; Marko Pfeifer, who met the press in Kaprun, the new head of the entire sector, explained in detail the programs, underlining how the slalomgigantists will instead remain to train in Europe, on the glaciers of Austria (Moelltaler and then Pitztal and Soelden) and Switzerland (in particular in Saas-Fee), as the costs of flying to New Zealand have literally skyrocketed. At the same time, the current snow conditions in the Alps are far from good, but hopefully the trend will change in the coming weeks. As for downhill skiers, however, there is the need not to lose ground with respect to direct rivals, Switzerland and Italy in the first place, who will be able to take advantage of Zermatt / Cervinia in particular (where at the end of October there will be the historic Cup del Mondo), where the Austrians were able to train only partially in 2020 and 2021. Mayer, Kriechmayr and teammates, therefore, will go to Chile under the guidance of Sepp Brunner and Werner Franz, who remain the reference points of the Wunderteam speed sector. Marco Schwarz, who aims to work much more on the descent, will not go with them, "but we will only take him to Copper Mountain in November - added Pfeifer - and at that point we will decide whether to deploy him in Lake Louise".
