With January comes the great classics of the Alpine Ski World Cup. The first event that made the history of this sport is the Giant of Adelboden.

Adelboden is a municipality in the canton of Bern, located just 70 Km from the Swiss capital. Ski resort of international renown, is most famous for Chuenisbärgli, the track since 1967 hosts, usually at the beginning of January, one of the most fascinating and difficult Giants of the World Cup, which since 2000 is accompanied by one Slalom. In all, 45 of the Giant editions of Adelboden played and valid for the Crystal Ball, and all the greatest interpreters of this discipline have written their name in gold. The most wins it is no coincidence to Ingemar Stenmark, who imposed five times (1979, 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1984), followed in third by Gustav Thöni (1973, 1974 and 1976), Pirmin Zurbriggen (1983 and twice in 1987), Hermann Maier (1998, 1999 and 2000) and Benjamin Raich (2006, 2007 and 2009) and 2 from Jean-Claude Killy (1967 and 1968), Marc Girardelli (1989 and 1991) and Marcel Hirscher (2012 and 2016) . Proving that win on Chuenisbärgli is a must for a gigantista boast victories, among others, Karl Schranz, Andreas Wenzel, Heini Hemmi, Alberto Tomba, Michael Von Grünigen and Ted Ligety. Among other active athletes, however, have established themselves once apiece Aksel Lund Svindal and Cyprien Richard, who won tied for the January 8, 2011, and Felix Neureuther, the first on 11 January 2014, Ranking relative to podiums always sees Stenmark to a height of 9 command; Swedish, with 5 wins, it combines 3/2 and 1 third place. Thöni instead to 6 top three, the 3 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third place, while the third with Raich and Von Grünigen at 5 podiums we find Massimiliano Blardone, only the winner on 11 January 2005, but able to get even 3/2 and one third place. As can be seen, it is good the relationship between Italians and Chuenisbärgli. We already mentioned Thöni, Tomb and Blardone, successes have also Piero Gros (13 January 1975) and Richard Pramotton (28 January 1986), a podium for Marco Tonazzi, second behind Pramotton for what is the last of 3 blue doublets in the Giant Adelboden (previous concern Thöni and Gros, they exchanged first and second place January 21, 1974 and January 13, 1975). The Giant of Adelboden will be held Saturday, January 7. First run at 10:30, the second race at 13:30.
