Since 2005 an Italian has not won the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, when Giorgio Rocca dominated the Canalone Miramonti in the night, and here is the expectation for the second seasonal specialty event, scheduled for Wednesday 22 December (5.45 pm the 1st heat , at 20.45 the 2nd), is already huge.
Seven boys from Theolier will be in the race: Alex Vinatzer, Giuliano Razzoli, Stefano Gross, Manfred Moelgg, Tommaso Sala and Simon Maurberger are sure of a bib, the last place is practically certain for Tobias Kastlunger, the best blue in the two rounds of yesterday and today in the European Cup, between Obereggen and Pozza di Fassa.
As is known, under the orders of the technical director Roberto Lorenzi, on Monday evening the blue sextet had the opportunity to ski at night on the race track, to get used to the spotlight and to discover the pitfalls of the slope, with some variation compared to previous years. "The ground is homogeneous, the bumps are more pronounced but I expect an even harder and shinier track", are the impressions of Alex Vinatzer, third in Campiglio last year and fresh from the sensational exit in the 2nd heat of Val d ' Isère, when he was launched at least for the podium.
"Night skiing excites me, the view is excellent and I have a lot of fun", added the 22-year-old from Val Gardena, to whom Stefano Gross did. "I like skiing at night more than during the day: you can see better and there is no risk of flat light when the weather is not the best".
The veteran Manfred Moelgg instead focused on the work of the Track Director, Adriano Alimonta, and his staff, working to refine a Canalone Miramonti that already appears in excellent condition exactly one week after the great night in Campiglio. “The snow is a lot but the track has been prepared, as usual, in an impeccable way. The bottom is still a bit soft but needs to be further treated with water. It didn't go well in Val d''Isère, but I'm excited for Campiglio and I can't wait to feel the push from our fans ”.
"The boys hadn't been skiing at night since last season, being able to do it in Campiglio and try the variations on the track a few days before 3Tre was important - commented the director Lorenzi - In Campiglio the public makes the difference, there is a magical atmosphere, but Canalone Miramonti doesn't give anything away: there will be the strongest in front of us, and we hope to be there too ”.
The return of the public for the Campiglio classic is the big news of 3Tre 2021: over 3000 tickets are made available by the 3Tre Committee, exclusively online on the website www.3trecampiglio.it. Access to Canalone Miramonti will be reserved for holders of a reinforced Green Pass, obtained exclusively from vaccination or cured from Covid-19 in the last 6 months (so-called Super Green Pass). Children under the age of 12 are exempt from presenting the Green Pass.
