The doubts of Andre Myhrer: the slalom Olympian wanted to close big at the World Cup, now he could continue

After the goodbyes of Hansdotter and Hargin, the Swedish federation pushes for the 36-year-old to continue. With what stimuli, in a season without big events? That of the parallel to Cortina 2021 ...

Andre Myhrer is at a crossroads. The post-Olympic season, after the triumph in the PyeongChang 2018 slalom, was to be the last of Bergsjo's 36-year career, with the desire to close big with the home world championships. On the snows of Are, however, did not go well for Myhrer, without medals and with a 13th place in the world slalom and the 5th in the team event. Above all, the Olympic champion never found the same level of the previous year during the World Cup vintage: 3rd place in the opening slalom in Levi, albeit almost a second and a half from the duo Hirscher-Kristoffersen, then only the seventh place obtained in Kitz and the 10th place in the specialty ranking, losing the first merit subgroup. Leaving aside the giant slalom, in order to make the most of his favorite race, Myhrer achieved the best results in parallel, where he is always a great protagonist and took 2nd place in the Stockholm city event and 4th in that of Oslo. Considering that in 2019/2020 there will be no major events, the objective would be to play it for another two years and, who knows, at that point try to defend the Olympic slalom title at the Beijing Games 2022. The Swedish federation is pushing in this direction, after losing Mattias Hargin and Frida Hansdotter who retired at the end of the season just ended, and not having behind them (both in technical specialties and in those fast) athletes and above all high-level youngsters. Doubts, for good Andre, could last another few weeks ...
