The company that has been producing the poles we see in the World Cup for years has published a statement in which it explains what happened on Thursday evening in the 3Tre slalom: "The organizing committee accepts no responsibility, we also apologize to them and to the Austrian Federsci for what happened to Strolz".

The "flying poles" that we have seen many, too many times during Thursday evening's race in Madonna di Campiglio, which partially conditioned both the first and second run of the slalom on the Canalone Miramonti, have a precise explanation.
Almost a dozen poles had rarely been seen leaving the venue in that way, also because the conditions in terms of snow and slope preparation were more than good; here is that SPM Sports Equipment, the company that for years has been responsible for supplying the FIS for each World Cup appointment, issued a press release in the morning to analyze what happened, apologize and assume all responsibility for what happened.
"SPM would like to apologize for what happened during the last edition of the Madonna di Campiglio race, last December 22nd - reads the note - The poles supplied for all the World Cup events are brand new, factory sealed, and produced with the same care, passion and quality as those given to the various national associations and ski clubs around the world.
According to FIS rules and procedures, the poles from the same lot as those chosen to be used for competitions are tested in the previous days, by the teams in training, and also in this case no problems were found. Unfortunately, the defective poles were in that lot and the cause was determined by a small screw that compromised everyone's work. SPM has carefully analyzed the problem and fixed it.
We offer our deepest apologies to Johannes Strolz, whose race was unfortunately compromised (the two-time Olympic gold medalist was 7th at the end of the first heat and in the second heat he ended up outside precisely because a pole ended up in his skis), to the Austrian federation and to the Organizing Committee of the 3Tre of Madonna di Campiglio, which bears no responsibility, demonstrating the highest quality and precision in deep respect for the athletes' performance".
