The US veteran has revealed that he was injured in training at Mount Hood: he has already been operated on and dreams of the Olympics, but will probably have to give up Cortina 2021.

During an interview given a couple of months ago to his colleague Andreas Raffeiner, he confessed that he loved Italy and couldn't wait to compete in a location like Cortina, precisely in a great event like the championships of world 2021. Almost certainly, however, Steven Nyman will have to give up this goal, because fate once again stopped him in the form of an injury, the third decidedly serious in just over three years; the 38-year-old American sprinter revealed that he had broken the Achilles tendon in his right leg during one of the last training sessions in recent days in Mount Hood, where the US national team is based.
Nyman has already been operated on, a couple of months after Mauro Caviezel who suffered the same type of injury and will try to return between December and January; it will be much tougher for the three-time winner on the Saslong (the only victories in the World Cup, Steven got them all in the Val Gardena descent), but who could think that the retirement has now become a plausible hypothesis, if we consider the double Crusader break in his right knee suffered in Garmisch, both in January 2017 and exactly one year later on Kandahar itself, he is very wrong.
"I have already faced all this and I have the full intention of returning and competing in the next Olympics", Nyman said on social media referring to Beijing 2022, which would be his fourth appointment with the Games after Turin, Vancouver and Sochi and after giving up, after Garmisch's second injury, at the last of PyeongChang 2018.
