Roberto Nani has no intention of giving up, indeed the intentions are really important for that 2020/21 season which will represent for him, after a few tastes in the past, the real relaunch in the World Cup. The 31-year-old from Livorno, in fact, has just returned from a very hard year, started from the exclusion from the national team and therefore from the choice to move to the southern hemisphere to lower his scores; the ascent started with the first podiums in the European Cup, then the call again in CdM to take part in the giants in Alta Badia, Garmisch and Hinterstoder. No points, but confidence has grown so much that on 8 February in Berchtesgaden, Nani returned to winning more than eight years after those first two successes on the continental circuit, which however arrived in slalom ... The federal choice was surprising to include it only among the athletes of "national interest" for the next year, with the permanent place for the giants of the World Cup guaranteed by the podium in the specialty ranking of the European Cup 2019/2020; it is true, the lion of Livigno has not been seen for some time at the levels of 2015, when it reached its peak with the 6th place in the world at Beaver Creek and the 4th in Soelden (after two other top 5 in the CdM), but the qualities are not in question and the motivation to return to the top is not lacking. Nani himself confessed it to our Dario Puppo, during the interview released on the occasion of "The Weekly Interview": "The exclusion from the national team was a bit unexpected, it is true, but I have well clear my goals and I think it will not have much influence - explained Robi - Let me explain better: I will not face the first meetings with the team from the Stelvio, but already between July and August I should join and I think that I will lose little, also because I had the '' opportunity to train on the snow in Livigno during May. It was not pleasant to know between press releases and social media, but I know what to do and what road I have to go to go back to the top: the passion is still a lot and I think I can give a lot for a few years. In the summer of 2019 I got back into the game at my expense after almost 10 years in the World Cup, I invested in myself and that between Australia and New Zealand was also a good experience with various Italian colleagues ". The target for next season? It is very clear: “I think of Soelden and immediately do well in CdM, returning first to top 15. Taking the first podium remains the goal and I believe it all right, because I feel I have the chance as in the best years. I work for this. " Nani has started training on the track since May 4, helped by his brother and with the great possibility, the only Italian athlete of level to be able to do so, offered by Livigno with still exceptional snow: “I consider myself lucky, practically in May they train only Scandinavians, Austrians, Pinturault himself. A huge thank you goes to the Carosello 3000 company, I found slopes in optimal conditions despite the temperatures. We started early in the morning, using the snowmobile as the ski lifts were obviously closed; we managed to do 12-13 actual days of good skiing and I can be satisfied, I tested some material and it is certainly an advantage compared to others. Now I will take a break for a month with training on skis, starting from the athletic side, and then we will see between Stelvio, Saas-Fee and Les Deux Alpes which options will be possible from July ". The blue also spoke of the choice of Roberto Saracco, in some sensational ways, to abandon the role of manager in charge of the men's giant team with already defined teams: "I did not expect it, but it is a regret because this group he has not been able to have continuity in these years and his farewell is certainly not good. I say this because I consider Roberto a very good technician and everyone will miss him, but he will have made his assessments and the choice must be understood and accepted. Roberto Lorenzi will remain the reference point and I think that this team, after the glories of the years of Simoncelli and Blardone, can go back there. There was some signal, such as the one-two between De Aliprandini and Borsotti in the first heat of Adelboden, which I saw from home as ill after the pre-race meeting in Ponte di Legno; it was exciting and I hope that in a few years it will be possible to find continuity of results ".
