Dressen's long ordeal continues: "I will not go to the Olympics, impossible to recover in time"

The announcement of the German sprinter in the interview with BR24: "After ten months without skis, I cannot prepare and qualify by competing in Wengen or Kitz, but the recovery is proceeding and I will have another chance in 2026". Little hope of returning at the end of the season for the Kvitfjell races.

After Stefan Luitz, together with Alexander Schmid the best German giant card, Germany will not even have its reference sprinter at the Olympics, that unlucky champion that is Thomas Dressen. The Bavarian giant officially renounces the Beijing 2022 Games, as he himself explained last night, during an interview with the BR24 broadcaster; after returning to Cortina to attempt the world miracle last February, but having in fact skipped another whole season, Dressen last February underwent surgery on his knee destroyed in 2018 in Beaver Creek, with the stop to fully recover which turned out to be longer than expected. In fact, in December, Thomas has not yet returned to skis and here is that the renunciation of the Olympic dream is now definitive, considering that we will not even see him for the January classics and there is only a small hope of being able to return to this year 2021/22 , for the last pre-final speed races in Kvitfjell, where he collected one of his five World Cup pearls. “Since I haven't skied yet, you can imagine that the rest of the season will take place without me - the words of the 28-year-old from Mittenwald - Time is simply too short to do it; I would have to compete in Wengen (double descent in mid-January, ed) to try to qualify for the Olympics, but after 10 months without skis and with the appointment in four weeks, the mission is impossible ”. Dressen has started again with cross-country skis a few days ago ("of course, it's a completely different thing, but the sensations on the knee are good"), and is already thinking about the future, confident of being able to fully recover the functionality of the knee and being able to participate in another Olympics, with Milano Cortina 2026 in the sights. “I'm still relatively young to be a downhill skier, that's why I want to compete for a few more years, but this can only be done if you don't step more than the leg after an injury. You have to swallow the toad and accept it, it's part of an athlete's process ”.
