It is the most difficult giant in the world, the true great classic of the circuit together with Adelboden's Chuenisbargli.
Gran Risa, the name is enough to make waiting for the race that Alta Badia has been organizing since 1986, having combined it since 2015 with the parallel giant that we will see on Monday afternoon.
After the difficult two days in Val Gardena, there is a little more confidence for the third seasonal giant (considering the postponement of almost three months of what should have been held in Val d''Isère), scheduled at 10 am on Sunday for the 1st heat and 13 for the second (both live on Raisport and Eurosport).
However, it will not be the same Gran Risa for at least two reasons: the first concerns the track, significantly shortened with the whole cut of the first wall, very tough, which leads to the diagonal of half the track. We will therefore start from the second start, due to the conditions of the surface damaged by the temperatures of the last few days and also from today's snowfall, which fortunately is giving a respite.
The second is the absence of the King of this track, or the winner of the last six editions of Marcel Hirscher; without the lighthouse, it is really impossible to make predictions, also considering what was seen in Beaver Creek with the surprise victory of Tommy Ford, who presents himself in Badia with the red bib of the leader of the specialty.
Instead, Alexis Pinturault will be the first to shoot, on the track designed by the French coach Perrin, just before the direct rival Henrik Kristoffersen, with Nestvold-Haugen (back from the second podium in CdM) which will have the 3.
To complete the first group Kranjec, Faivre, Ford with the 6 and Meillard with the 7, while Ted Ligety drew the 8 and to follow we will see Marco Odermatt, relegated to the second sub group but with an excellent No. 9, before the 'blue tip for a weight result, that Luca De Aliprandini who will have the bib number 10.
Nine Italians in the race: Moelgg with 24, Tonetti 26, in series Ballerin (43), Maurberger (44) and Hannes Zingerle (45), then Giulio Bosca with 47, Borsotti with 52 and the return of Roberto Nani in World Cup with 58, just before Michael Matt who will be at the start with 62 and penultimate at the starting gate, thinking above all of Monday's giant parallel like Mayer and Kilde (31 and 32 for the two multipurpose players from Austria and Norway ).
Three years after the last podium signed by Florian Eisath, who knows that on a day as special as this Sunday the blue dream cannot bring something great.
