Kitzbuehel signs a new record: the prize pool of the weekend of the year rises to 1 million euros!

The announcement of the organizers of the Hahnenkamm-Rennen: with the return of the public and the double descent on the Streif, prizes up to the 45th place and 100 thousand euros to the winners. "A signal for the future".

If Kitzbuehel is considered the highlight of the season, simply the "weekend of the year" for the world of skiing and snow, there must be a reason. Everything is special and magnified, compared to the classic stages of the white circus, in the week of Hahnenkamm-Rennen: edition number 82, scheduled from 21 to 23 January 2022, will be even more so since the Tyrolean organizers have announced, on Tuesday evening, an increase in the prize pool to the record figure of 1 million euros. The public will return to the foot of the Streif, which will host two descents as in 2021 (with an important change in terms of safety on the diagonal of the Hausbergkante) and the return of the slalom on the Ganslern, with prizes of 100 thousand for the winners and an economic recognition up to the 45th position for the eagerly awaited descents on the symbol track. The previous record in terms of prize money dates back to 2020, with 725 thousand euros up for grabs. “The reason for this increase is the further development of the program with a second descent on Friday of the race week, which increases the importance of our appointment. We believe that this choice is a sign of the future - added Michael Huber, president of the Kitzbueheler Ski Club, speaking to the ORF - With the new program a very interesting situation is created at every level, thanks also to the support of our partners ”.
