At home Sweden we are working on some news towards the Olympic season, in particular as regards the team that has always been the reference of the entire men's national team, namely that of the slalomists.
Of course, there are no longer the Olympic champion André Myhrer, who will not defend his title in Beijing, and Mattias Hargin who retired instead in 2019, but Kristoffer Jakobsen has really become an athlete capable of also playing the podium in a very open specialty. , as evidenced by the alternation of results among the many men at the top.
The novelty concerns the change of the technical guide, with Mika Gustafsson new manager starting from next August 1st, as announced in the past by the team manager of the alpine sector in the Scandinavian team, Lars Melin. We want to grow many young people behind Jakobsen who, by now, is in full competitive maturity as he will celebrate 27 years on 9 September: an athlete who in the past season made the leap in quality in terms of pure performance, but not again in terms of continuity.
The good Kristoffer, in fact, has been in the race for the top 3 several times with first heats of great quality or, at the same time, dream comebacks like those at the beginning of the season. Often, however, he threw enormous chances to the wind, including the Cortina World Championship, and in the end only three top ten arrived, with 8th place in the Flachau slalom as the best result. The goal is to play for something big at the next Olympic Games, in the wake of what Myhrer did who, in the grand finale of his career, closed with a bang on that magical day in PyeongChang.
