The sprinter who promised so much until 2018 retires before the fall on the Stelvio and the double exclusion from the national team. For him 36 bibs in the World Cup and two wins in the European Cup, both in Italy.

It was one of the talents that Aksel Lund Svindal and Kjetil Jansrud had tried to scorn, with the 1992 vintage on the identity card on a par with a certain Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
Stian Saugestad, however, failed to meet the expectations that were on him and today, three months after the last race in the World Cup, with the descent at home in Kvitfjell, he officially announced the withdrawal from skiing at only 27 years old. Not an absolute surprise, given that one of Norway's "vikings" had again been excluded from the national teams, exactly as it happened in spring 2019.
And yet, in the last vintage he had been called up several times in the maximum circuit, however, obtaining only a points placement (25th in the discussed super-g in Val Gardena); in 36 CdM races, the best result remains the 11th place in the super-g of Kvitfjell in March 2018, a few months before the terrible fall in the super-g on the Stelvio di Bormio (it was 29 December 2018), from which substantially he never recovered as he confirmed in the social message that sanctioned the farewell to competition. “What a journey it has been, from Oppdal to tackling the most incredible descents in the world such as Kitzbuehel and Wengen - wrote Saugestad - Only when you finish your career, do you understand how crazy what you have done has been. I tried everything to achieve my goals, I can say I still fulfilled my dream of competing at certain levels, but after the crash in Bormio maybe I was unable to take the right steps to do my best, but I can only thank everyone those who have joined me in recent years ".
For the Norwegian sprinter, the palmares also plays two successes in the European Cup, both in Val Sarentino after two years from each other: the first in February 2016 in super-g, the second after more than 24 months in descent.
