The last race of the Men's World Cup before the Aspen Finals will be the Kranjska Gora slalom.

Kranjska Gora is a municipality of Slovenia, located between the Julian Alps and the Karavanke on the border with Austria and Italy. It is a historical location with regard to the Alpine Ski World Cup: hosted races since 1968 and, except for a break between 1970 and 1978, remained constantly on the calendar with location that has changed over the years until to find its current arrangement (the last weekend before the final technical) from 2006-2007.
On the difficult Podkoren they have played so far 40 Slalom World Cup. The most successful ever in this race is Alberto Tomba: the Emilian champion fact boasts three victories, one second and one third place, placings to which one could add another successful if 9 January 1994 had not got on the wall while it was clearly ahead.
In that same race he threw away the win Thomas Stangassinger: leading with margin on all after the first run, the Austrian finished off after a few doors in the second. That of the Kranjska Gora Slalom seems a curse for the Lillehammer Olympic champion: he is the man with the most podium finishes (6), but without victories: 1 second and 5 third places. Behind him with five top three, in addition to Tomba's Mario Matt (2 wins, one second and two thirds), while 4 are Ivica Kostelic (2 wins, 1 second and 1 third), Ingemar Stenmark, Marcel Hirscher ( both 1 win, 2 seconds and 1 third) and Benjamin Raich (2/2 and 2/3).
Not only Tomb, the Slalom on the Podkoren gave more satisfaction to the color blue. Giorgio Rocca has 2 victories in two consecutive editions (February 27, 2005 and December 22, 2005, the third of five consecutive victories that launched him towards the conquest of the cup of specialty), Manfred Mölgg 1 win (March 9, 2008, which is also decisive for the race to its cup) and 1 third place, Giuliano Razzoli 2/2 places, Richard Pramotton and Cristian Deville 1 second, the poor Leonardo David and Stephen Gross 1 third.
Finally, to remember a race remained well etched in the memory of the fans, although not to its outcome. On January 4, 1998, in fact, Grave, second behind Finn Christian Jagge after the first run, had a big argument with Günther Hujara during the reconnaissance of the second. Between the two is not good blood flow, but what happens is almost surreal: Alberto snow is rotten and would require the inversion of the top 15 instead of the top 30 (at the time this possibility was provided for in the Regulation), for the referee FIS is he who, slamming skis and poking the snow with poles, the ruining exceedingly. The Kranjska Gora Slalom will be held Sunday, March 5. The first race will start at 9:30 am, the second at 12:30.
