The criticisms were unanimous, starting with those of the athletes who, right from the timed tests, asked for the smoothing of a jump that, this year in particular, was really too long.
Too little was done, until last Friday, in the first descent of Kitzbuehel (after Johan Clarey had already risked very big the previous day), the Streif and the Zielschuss that leads to the finish line, had no mercy on Urs Kryenbuehl who, losing his balance in flight, he suffered an injury that will force the Swiss to a long stop. Hence, for the 2022 edition of the Hahnenkammrennen, the final stretch of the queen ski slope will substantially change.
Already on the occasion of the second descent (last Sunday), with the smoothing of the final jump, the risks have decreased, but the great head of the organizing committee, Michael Huber, wants to do much more. “The question we asked ourselves is how to neutralize the unpredictability of the top speed at that point”. The solution has not been identified in the elimination of the jump, but in the reduction of speed before reaching almost 150 km / h at that point; we will then leave the Hausbergkante at a less steep point, hoping that it will be enough to avoid further risks of a track that, in itself, is tough enough ...
