Marc Gisin, debut at risk towards Lake Louise: "After the accident I still can't train as I would like"

That terrible fall, on the camel's humps in the descent of Val Gardena, is still felt on the body of the Swiss downhill skier.

Marc Gisin confessed to his "Blick" colleagues that he still cannot train as he would like, thinking of the next World Cup season and returning to Lake Louise at the end of November, now considered at risk. The terrible accident of 15 December 2018 on the Saslong, when the 31-year-old Swiss got 16 fractures at the costal level, but in particular injuries to the lungs and hip as well as a head injury, prevents Gisin from working 100%. "I left the Zermatt glacier training for a flu form earlier this week, but this is not the main problem - explained Dominique and Michelle's brother - My physical values are as good as they were before the fall in Val Gardena, but right now I can't get to the limit on skiing; I have the feeling that my subconscious blocks certain movements that would make me faster ”. For Marc it is a clearly new situation, despite having already had to deal with a serious shock due to a fall in the super-g on the Streif (it was 2015, ed): “On that occasion I suffered a cranio-cerebral trauma with important bleeding, but it didn't take long to get back to the limit again. Twelve months later, I finished in 5th place in Kitz ”. When asked if Lake Louise and the first fast races of the 2019/2020 season are at risk, the Visp sprinter responds as follows: "It is still my goal to be in the race in Canada next November 30th, but I will be at the gate starting only if able to attack with conviction in training. How can I get out of it? I don't know of any trick that can go beyond the subconscious, which is why I will have to be patient and try to cover many kilometers in the coming weeks. " For Gisin another training block is expected next week, on the snows of Saas Fee.
